The Operations Division is the most visible Division of the Sparks Police to the community. The Operations Division consists of the Patrol Section, Traffic Section and the Support Services Section. The Operations Division is managed by a Deputy Chief of Police.

The Operations Division is responsible for: delivering uniformed police response to emergency and non‑emergency calls for service; performing service delivery through a Community Policing Philosophy and pro‑active problem solving strategies including the ComStat model; providing specialized support activities to the department and community through special units such as SWAT, Regional Gang Unit, Consolidated Bomb Squad, K-9 Unit and Mounted Unit; coordinating and performing risk assessment of all special events in the City; providing safe streets and highways through enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic accidents; coordinating mandatory and specialized annual police officer in-service training courses that meet the Nevada Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training requirements; conducting thorough background investigations for police department applicants.

In an attempt to provide the best service we can to our community, the Sparks Police Department will be implementing several preventative measures to help reduce or prevent the exposure and spread of Covid-19. These changes will begin 11/16/2020. This temporary altering and or reduction in services is only temporary and is designed to help reduce exposure to both our community and our employees. The Sparks Police Department is committed to placing our community first and this is an effort to keep our staff healthy and available to assist our community’s emergent needs. These changes in services are only temporary. Non-Essential Services will be suspended until further notice. All Work Permits Fingerprint Cards Additionally, the following services will be provided online or via mail only until further notice: Criminal History Requests (Online or Mail ONLY) Case Requests (Online or Mail ONLY) Convicted Persons Registration (Online or Mail ONLY) Sex Offender Registration (Online or Mail ONLY) Our front desk will be open by appointment only.
