Felony Warrant/Barricaded Suspect

On September 10th, 2019, at approximately 7:13am, the Sparks Police Department received a call reporting that the ex-husband of a female subject at 5955 Ingleston Drive was at the house and he had a Temporary Protection Order (TPO) to stay away from the ex-wife residing there.  It was also reported that he had a history of violence against her.

The TPO was not found; however, an active and extraditable felony warrant for Domestic Battery against the ex-wife was located.  The ex-wife and a child were believed to be in the home with the suspect David Schaeffer.  There was concern for a possible hostage situation, as Officers attempted multiple times to contact the ex-wife without success.

The home was surrounded and numerous attempts to contact the possible victim and suspect were attempted via telephone and loudspeaker.  Eventually the ex-wife and minor child exited the residence together.  David Schaeffer was known to still be in the home and refused to come out.  Sparks PD SWAT responded to the now barricaded suspect.  The suspect eventually came out of the residence on his own accord.

For the time being, Schaeffer was booked into the Washoe County Jail for a local misdemeanor charge of Obstructing.  A hold for the felony warrant will be completed by the Washoe County Jail.  It was later determined that the ex-wife was not held against her will.
