Update to May 14 Shooting

The Sparks Police Department Detective Division is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 2200 block of Greenbrae Drive.  On May 14, 2018 at approximately 11:41 p.m., Sparks Police received a 911 call reporting a shooting which left an occupant of a black Lincoln Towncar with a gunshot wound. Officers responded and provided emergency medical aid to the victim until Remsa medics arrived.  The victim was transported to Renown Medical Center.


Responding officers learned there was a verbal disturbance between two parties when gunfire erupted. The occupants of the Lincoln traveled to the Wells Fargo Bank located a block away from the initial scene when the phone call for help was made.


At this time, no other information will be released. All media inquiries should be made to the department PIO office on Tuesday.


******UPDATED INFORMATION****** May 16, 2018 ******


The victim in this case died at the hospital as a result of injuries sustained during the shooting.  The victim’s next of kin has been notified, and the victim has been identified as Michael Frost, a 31-year-old Sparks resident.


Sparks Police detectives are actively investigating this case as a Homicide and the suspect is outstanding.  Detectives have identified the suspect as Kareem Thomas JR, a 23-year-old Reno resident.  He is further described as a black male adult, 5’08”,160 lbs. with a tattoo above his left eye.  A photograph of the suspect is attached to this release.


The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.  If you spot the suspect in this case, call 911 immediately.  Anyone with information about this case or the whereabouts of the suspect is urged to call Detectives 775-353-2225 or Secret Witness 775-322-4900.
